I am unable to save masks. The save and load are NOT grayed out but they don't do anything?? Are you supposed to be able to retrieve (load) a mask when in Bokeh. How do you use "masks" when in Bokeh???

I would really appreciate it if some others could try saving masks and let me know if it works.
Thanks

I was unable to either save or load a mask with the latest release (4.4 although the About says 4.3e beta). Of course I don't normally load or save masks in SL so I am not sure there was a change from the previous version.

Thanks for the response Mike. By the way, if you are using 4.4 shouldn't the "About" say 4.4. It does in mine.

Wow. What a mistake.

It turns out that I only thought I had installed the 4.4 version. I guess I copied the installer down from the web site and then mistakenly copied the 4.3 version into the x86 program files folder instead of doing the install. Or installed the wrong version (I tend to keep the old versions just in case I need to drop back). That is why the About said 4.3.

Anyway I have now (really) installed the 4.4 version (and it now says 4.4) and again verified that the Save and Load masking commands do nothing on my version. I guess that means that they did nothing in 4.3 also. I think you should create a thread in the Bug forum for this issue.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi, Den.

Ok. Now that I am moved, I can look at that (and the exif issue) more closely. I am still not completely set up, so I may still be a day out from really being able to look at some things.

With the masking, the idea is that I recently moved into the idea of Sagelight having an Alpha channel. In the bokeh, it has a method (that I expect to expand on with everything) to open up the masking. The Bokeh is a bit different, though, because it also uses a highlight mask. So, if you save a mask in the Bokeh -- as opposed to the Quick Edit Mode -- it may save it in the bokeh format, because it wants to save your highlight mask as a package with the regular mask. I will look into that.

With the normative masking, here is how it works:

1. The auto-masking is just temporary, as it is auto-selecting by color, light, or a combination of the two. This is kind of like Photoshop's Select Color masking, where it is being used just for the time you're using the controls.
2. When you use the Draw Mask, this is the alpha channel, and this is what you're saving/loading with the load/save controls. Typically, you want to be in this mode when you load a mask, and I think there is a bug that doesn't recognize it unless you are.
3. With the auto-masking, in the advanced section, there is a button called "Commit Selection to Mask" -- this is going to be renamed to something like "Sent Auto-Masking to Alpha Channel". This will add the auto-selection to the current alpha channel -- if the alpha channel is blank, then it will just transfer it directly.

I will look at the process today and see what the issues are. As I mentioned, I think there is a bug that prevents the mask from loading if you're not in the 'Draw Mask Mode'. I will also look at the Bokeh controls and see if I can make things a little more easy to use.

With this next release (4.5), I will be revamping the masking controls somewhat. I am adding the reticle controls, and also the ability to wire-frame the reticle controls. I will also look at making a more clear distinction between the auto-masking and the alpha-channel.

I will look at it later today when I am more set up, so to be continued! :)

Rob
